Today is the birthday of a man who grew up on OP's streets, played in its parks, and went to Northeast High. He delivered newspapers to his neighbors, climbed trees that are now long gone, and heard music as the train passed through. At a time when our city was more sleepy small town than city on the move, he put us on the musical map by becoming the World's Greatest Bass Player and changing music forever. He would have been 59 years old. GBJ
